He was the TOP commander for Lebanese Shi'ite group Hezbollah. 55-year-old Mustafa Badreddine .... killed in Syria on May 10, the group says, by an Israeli military strike on one of its bases near Damascus airport. Badreddine was one of five Hezbollah members indicted by the U.N. in the 2005 killing of Lebansese statesman Rafik al-Hariri. But, for years, Badreddine also ran military operations against ISRAEL from Lebanon and overseas. The U.S. believes Badreddine was responsible for Hezbollah's recent military operations in Syria, where it's fighting alongside forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV has shown Badreddine's family receiving condolences in a suburb of Beirut. His death is seen as a blow to the Iranian-backed organisation, which has lost some 1,200 fighters in the Syrian conflict and at least four prominent figures since 2015.
