Thousands of Bosnian Serbs stage counter rallies for and against the government in Banja Luka, the capital of Bosnia's autonomous Serb region. Rough Cut - Subtitled (no reporter narration).

The opposition in Bosnia and Herzegovina's autonomous Serb region protest what they say is government corruption and a poor economy. They demand early parliamentary elections. Some also want closer relations with the European Union. (SOUNDBITE) (Serbian) FORMER SERB REPUBLIC PRESIDENT AND OPPOSITION LEADER, DRAGAN CAVIC, SAYING: "Those who rule by fear will leave in fear. And that is their faith." On the other side of the regional capital, thousands gather for a rival rally in support of the government which favors closer ties with Russia. Some carry pictures of Russian President Vladimir Putin and argue they're defending their state from treason. Authorities are hoping to avoid confrontations in the politically charged atmosphere in the build-up to the October elections.
