Russia's Lavrov raises concerns about missile shield in Europe saying, ''NATO countries are trying to increase confrontation by moving military infrastructure east.'' Deborah Lutterbeck reports.

It was just days ago that the U.S. switched on an $800 million missile shield in Romania -- a move it sees as vital to defend itself and Europe from so-called rogue states. But the Kremlin did not see it that way -- fearing it is aimed at blunting its own nuclear arsenal. Russia continues to raise concerns. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, SERGEI LAVROV, SAYING: "As for the European security issues, we share a concern that our colleagues from NATO countries are trying to increase confrontation by moving military infrastructure east, close to our borders." Lavrov said the best way to resolve the issue is through diplomacy. Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the prospect of a nuclear threat from Iran should no longer be taken seriously, and is being used by Washington as an excuse to develop its missile shield in Europe.
