Chaos covers the streets of Valparaiso, Chile, where protests during an annual speech by the president erupted into violence. Stores have turned to ash, as protesters battle with police. Firefighters failed to resuscitate a municipal worker who later died of asphyxiation. He was working in a building that was set on fire by protesters. All the while applause fills the Chilean Congress. The speech by President Michelle Bachelet this year is one of assessment, with no major new announcements. This past year saw weak economic growth and a family scandal that damaged Bachelet's reputation. And now a deadly protest that's left its mark on the city's streets.
