Rebel forces celebrate in Syria after pushing Islamic State out of a town in the outskirts of Aleppo. Rebels say Islamic State had stranding thousands of civilians there -- prompting a U.S.-led coalition to air drop weapons to rebels. A moment of celebration as Islamic State's far-flung enemies in Syria and Iraq are pressing ahead with major advances on multiple fronts. A very different scene inside Aleppo. Amateur video, which cannot be independently verified by Reuters, shows the scramble to find the living after reports of a barrel bomb exploding in the streets. A witness is calling it a gruesome massacre committed by helicopters. He says fires are burning all over the city, and body parts are everywhere. President Bashar al-Assad has been fighting a civil war against a range of enemies for five years. On Tuesday he vowed to recapture "every inch" of Syria -- in a defiant speech seen as a setback to diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.
