ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) U.S. President Barack Obama on Sunday (June 12) called the attack that killed 50 people and wounded 53 more at an Orlando nightclub early Sunday morning an "act of terror and hate" and pledged the full resources of the federal government to aid in the investigation of the crime and assist the victims and their families. Police identified the shooter as Omar S. Mateen, a Florida resident who a senior FBI official said might have had leanings towards Islamic State militants. Officials called the rampage a "terrorism incident," but cautioned that the suspected Islamist connection required further investigation. Mateen is accused of opening fire at a packed gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida on Sunday before being killed by police in what Obama said was the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. The FBI said it was still trying to pin down whether the mass shooting was a hate crime against gays or a terrorist act.
