ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan says the Orlando nightclub attack was "another act of war against America by radical Islam" during a news conference, Tuesday (June 14). "This is a threat that simply must be defeated. And right now, right now the president doesn't have a plan to get the job done," Ryan said. The shooting was the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Authorities said the gunman appeared to have acted alone, but was inspired by radical ideology he was exposed to over the internet. Ryan said last week House Republicans introduced "67 ideas to keep America safe including many to address homegrown terrorism." Democrats in Congress have renewed their call for gun control following the Orlando massacre. The likely Democratic candidate for November's presidential election, Hillary Clinton, has urged a ban on assault weapons. Republican lawmakers have rejected such calls, and Republican candidate Donald Trump has said the Orlando attack shows why Americans need to have guns, to better protect themselves. "The homeland is under attack and it's one of the highest threat environments I've seen since 911," said Republican Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.
