A report by the satirical and investigative newspaper Le Canard Enchaine reveals the costly upkeep of the French head of state. President Francois Hollande's hairdresser is paid more than $10,000 U.S. dollars a month. It's a price that shocked many on the streets of Paris. (SOUNDBITE) (French) RESIDENT, ASTRID, SAYING: "It's crazy, 9,800 euros for a haircut, just to cut your hair, it's atrocious, it's shameful, especially for his haircut! Frankly it's atrocious ." Many hair stylists also admit they're envious. (SOUNDBITE) (French) HAIRDRESSER HELENE, SAYING: "I think his hairdresser is very lucky, I would like to earn that too. If I made that in even a year it would be good. I think our taxes are used really badly. I think it is scandalous." The government says Hollande's hairdresser is paid that much because he had to abandon his salon and is on call 24 hours a day. Social media is buzzing with the story and many on Twitter have suggested novel haircuts. The revelation is unlikely to boost Hollande's popularity, especially since the Socialist leader campaigned on the promise that he would be Mr. Normal.
