U.S. Senator Ted Cruz refused to endorse Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at the party's convention on Wednesday prompting angry 'boos' from the crowd. Cruz did congratulate his one time opponent, but stopped short of offering an official endorsement. Delegates had mixed feelings on the matter. (SOUNDBITE) (English) JANE PAGE THOMPSON, REPUBLICAN DELEGATE FROM SOUTH CAROLINA, SAYING: "I think Ted Cruz endorsed the role of the Republican party in the next election and I think he used some of the key words that his anti-Trump pack has been using, which was 'vote your conscience'. And that was an under-handed blow and he deserved to be booed off the stage tonight, because he was supposed to come here and unify and all he did was come here and divide." (SOUNDBITE) (English) ROLANDO GARCIA, REPUBLICAN DELEGATE FROM SOUTH CAROLINA, SAYING: "I'm not disappointed. I mean, if he had chosen to endorse, that would've been fine with me. He chose not to and that's also fine with me. It's a decision that he had to make. It's a decision of conscience, and I don't blame him either way. You know, it was a very bruising primary. I think some of Trump's attacks on him were nasty and personal. And so I can understand why there's still some hesitation, but again, it's a decision of conscience." Near the end of Cruz's speech, Trump drew attention away from Cruz as he entered the arena to sit with his family. Later in a Tweet Trump said Cruz quote 'didn't honor the pledge', but that apparently the non-endorsement was 'no big deal'.
