ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence defended his ticket's presidential nominee, Donald Trump, against accusations by President Barack Obama that Trump is "unprepared" for office. At a campaign rally in Sioux Falls, Iowa on Monday (August 8), Pence said that Obama would only be able to make that claim because he himself was unfit for office. "Honestly, I mean President Obama, I got to admit, he would know a lot about what it is to be woefully unprepared to be President of the United States of America," said Pence. On August 2nd, Obama criticized Republicans for continuing to support Trump in the wake of his attacks on a Muslim couple that lost a son in the war in Iraq, and who had criticized Trump. Obama said Trump is "woefully unprepared to do this job". Pence also attacked the administration over its handling of a transfer of funds to Iran during negotiations to put in place a landmark nuclear deal. Critics have suggested the administration paid a ransom by handing over $400 million in cash to Iran at the same time as four Americans were freed from Iranian custody. "When Donald Trump is the leader of the free world America won't be paying ransom to terrorists, terrorists and their sponsors will be paying a price for threatening or detaining or harming the people of the United States of America," said Pence.
