ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Senior French politicians gathered to pay homage to victims of terror attacks on Monday in the presence of families and survivors, as President Francois Hollande promised more resources to combat the threat. The annual ceremony held at the Les Invalides military monument has taken on renewed significance since a spate of attacks on French soil with over 230 people killed since the start of 2015. The names of those killed in the November 13 Paris shootings and the truck attack in Nice were amongst those read out in the emotional ceremony where family members were invited to remember their loved ones. Islamist militants killed 17 people including journalists from the satirical Charlie Hebdo newspaper in January, 2015 and the coordinated attacks claimed by Islamic State killed 130 people in Paris in November. Other attacks have included the killing of a policeman and his partner as well as a priest this summer. "Never before has our country been attacked to such a criminal extent, with such destructive fury, with such barbarous cruelty. That's why it was so important that the names, all the names, of the 230 victims killed by terrorists since September 19, 2015 in France and abroad be heard," Hollande said in a speech. France has been under emergency law since the Paris attacks. Hollande's government has stepped up hiring of police and put thousands of extra police and soldiers on the streets to protect sensitive sites. The ceremony is organized every year by victims' associations on the date of the attack against a jet from French airline UTA, which killed 170 including 54 French people above Niger in 1989.
