ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence said that Donald Trump has been preparing for the presidential debates for "his entire lifetime" a day ahead of the first of three critical matchups in the race. Trump is gaining in the polls as he and Democrat Hillary Clinton prepare to face on Monday (September 26) at Hofstra University in New York. "I think he's given voice to the frustrations and aspirations of the American people like no American leader in my lifetime since Ronald Reagan," said Pence. With just six weeks before the Nov. 8 election, Monday's debate presents a major opportunity for the candidates to appeal to voters who have yet to commit to a candidate after a mostly negative race in which Clinton and Trump have sought to brand each other as untrustworthy and dangerous for the country. "It's going to be change versus status quo," said Pence of the debate, "and I'm looking forward to being front and center in that debate and seeing Donald Trump take his case to the American people." The live, televised matchup is expected to draw a Super Bowl-sized television audience of 100 million Americans, according to some commentators.
