ROUGH CUT - NATURAL (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi arrived in New Delhi on Monday (October 17) from the resort state of Goa after attending BRICS and BIMSTEC summits. She was received by Indian Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. This is Suu Kyi's first state visit to India after her National League for Democracy swept to power in last year's elections. "The visit of the State Counselor will provide an opportunity for the two sides to discuss issues of mutual interest and seek ways to further strengthen the close and friendly ties that exist between the two countries," India's foreign ministry said early this week. Suu Kyi will meet Indian President Pranab Mukherjee and foreign minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday (October 18). On Wednesday (October 19), she will have a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The cross-border activities of insurgent groups active in India's northeastern region bordering Bhutan and trade are expected to dominate talks between the two countries. India's mountainous northeast, bordered by China, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Bhutan, is home to dozens of insurgent groups, some fighting for greater autonomy and others for secession.
