Syrian Military Media footage purports to show renewed fighting in the battle for control of Aleppo during Sunday and Monday. The hostilities resumed when a unilateral ceasefire declared by Russia from Thursday fell through. It lasted just three days and didn't result in any of the medical evacuations or deliveries of aid to the city it was hoped to achieve. Syrian Military Media says the footage shows heavy fighting with what it called armed groups in an area southwest of Aleppo. Aleppo's been a major battleground in the Syrian conflict now in its sixth year. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, backed by the Russian military, Iran's Revolutionary Guards and an array of Shi'ite Muslim militias, wants to take full control of the city. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry voiced concern to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday about the renewed fighting and air strikes in Aleppo. The State Department and Russia's Foreign Ministry said the pair agreed that experts from several countries meeting in Geneva would continue searching for ways to resolve the Aleppo crisis.
