Pakistani police fired tear gas at demonstrators ahead of a planned anti-government rally in Islamabad. Hundreds of protesters are heading to the capital after a court ruling last week cleared the way for opposition politician Imran Khan to hold a mass protest there on Wednesday. The highway near the town of Swabi was blocked with large shipping containers, as demonstrators volleyed rocks to the police's tear gas. The Islamabad High Court dismissed government challenges to Wednesday's protests, but said the rally had to be held in fairground far from the city center. Khan, a former national cricketing hero, has vowed to 'shut down' the city in order to unseat Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on alleged corruption charges. Khan said leaked law firm documents show Sharif's children used offshore holding companies to buy properties in London.
