A moment of celebration for the Palestinians. The U.N. Security Council passing a resolution demanding an end to Israel's settlement-building. The vote passed after the U.S. abstained - in a sign of Washington's fury over Israel's refusal to stop building on land claimed by the Palestinians. But Jewish settlers in East Jerusalem say they'll continue to do what's right for them - regardless of the U.N. vote. (SOUNDBITE) (Hebrew) RESIDENT OF HAR HOMA SETTLEMENT IN JERUSALEM, SHLOMO LEVI, SAYING: "I think that the U.N. never represented the state of Israel. It was always against it. We will continue, as always, to do what we see right, for the benefit of the state of Israel and for the benefit of the people of Israel." In Ramallah, Palestinians said the vote was unlikely to lead to change on the ground. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) RESIDENT OF RAMALLAH, KHALIL JEMZAWI, SAYING: "We really weren't expecting this but hopefully it won't just be politics, talk and ink on paper. We want it to be implemented on the ground." Any sense of victory for the Palestinians is likely to be short-lived - the resolution's expected to be ignored by the incoming Trump administration.
