Adele rules the Grammy Awards

Adele swept the Grammy Awards, taking home statuettes for the top prizes - album, record and song of the year - in a shock, history-making victory over Beyonce on a night marked by political statements and emotional tributes. Eve Johnson reports.

PLEASE NOTE: ADELE PERFORMANCE FOOTAGE CONTAINS PROFANITY A shock victory for Adele at America's biggest music awards show on Sunday (February 12) night, sweeping top prizes for best album, record and song of the year But also taking the time to praise her big competition. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ADELE SAYING: "My dream and my idol is Queen B and I adore you and you move my soul and you have done every single day for nearly 17 years. I adore you and I want you to be my mommy." Beyonce won only two awards out of nine nominations, but delivered a show-stopping performance and tribute to motherhood It was also a night to remember absent friends. Adele fumbling her tribute to George Michael. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ADELE SAYING: "I know it's live TV, I'm sorry, I need to start again, I f***** it up, I can't do it again like last year, I'm sorry for swearing and I'm sorry for starting again." But in the end winning a standing ovation. David Bowie's album "Blackstar," released shortly after his death, taking all five awards it was nominated for. And Prince remembered by pop star Bruno Mars. Chance the Rapper went home with two statuettes for best new artist and best rap album. The night also took a political turn with Busta Rhymes calling out U.S. President Donald Trump. (SOUNDBITE) (English) BUSTA RHYMES SAYING: "I just wanna thank President Agent Orange, for perpetuating all of the evil that you've been perpetuating throughout the United States." Pop queen Katy Perry performing in front of the U.S. constitution wearing an armband that read "resist."
