South of the border, thousands of protesters in Mexico City are venting their anger over U.S. President Donald Trump and rejecting his policies. Trump won the presidency with promises to get tougher on immigration and trade from Mexico. Many here now fear Trump's plans could do lasting damage. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) ACTIVIST AND PRESIDENT OF "COMMON CAUSE" GROUP, MARIA ELENA MORERA, SAYING: "These policies threaten everyone's rights, threaten the rights of migrants in the U.S. and put the Mexican economy at risk." The march was a rare display of national unity. Those who took to the streets came from all over the country, with ideologies spanning the political spectrum -- united in their desire to condemn Trump...who they blame for worsening ties between the two countries. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) ACTIVIST AND DIRECTOR OF THE "NATIONAL CITIZEN OBSERVATORY" GROUP, FRANCISCO RIVAS, SAYING: "We need to resolve whatever difference we have with the United States because we will not be able to move the country forward. But the current government of the United States has declared itself an enemy of Mexico." Protesters also marched in more than a dozen other cities, including Guadelajara. But no matter the city, their message remained the same: they refuse to tolerate the man they say is trying to divide the U.S. and Mexico.
