President Donald Trump outlined his plans for tax reform, regulatory rollback, and strengthening the U.S. military speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC. (SOUNDBITE) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "We will reduce your taxes. We will cut your regulations. We will support our police. We will defend our flag." His speech was heavy on the nationalist overtones from his campaign last year, focusing on promises to boost U.S. economic growth by retooling international trade deals, cracking down on immigration, and boosting energy production. John Hudak of Brookings Insitution. (SOUNDBITE) JOHN HUDAK, SENIOR FELLOW, THE BROOKINGS INSTITUTION, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "I think the President gave a fairly effective speech, given the audience to whom he was speaking. This is a group of conservative activists, the die-hards of the party, in many ways, the people who will help him get re-elected in four years, and he needed to do two things. First, show them that he is one of them, convince them that he is a true conservative. And, second, talk about the issues that matter most to them. And he did both of those things fairly effectively." On Tuesday, President Trump will give a televised speech before a joint session of Congress, in which, some analysts say, he will try to recast his tumultuous first month in the office.
