Former U.S. President George W. Bush promotes his new book and shares his love for painting while also clarifying recent remarks he made about President Donald Trump and the media. Linda So reports.

A packed house at the Reagan National Library for former U.S. President George W. Bush. He was in town to promote his new book, a collection of his paintings honoring veterans. Bush says he discovered a passion for painting after leaving the Oval Office, a skill he never knew he had. SOUNDBITE: FORMER U.S. PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH, SAYING: "You don't know what you can do until you try it." But Bush also clarified his recent remarks about the media's essential role in democracy. Some took those remarks as a criticism of President Trump, who called the media, the enemy of the American people. SOUNDBITE: FORMER U.S. PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH, SAYING: "Of course the headlines were Bush criticizes Trump so therefore I needed to say there should be a free and independent press but it ought to be accurate." Bush says after leaving the White House, he made a personal decision not to criticize his successors. SOUNDBITE: FORMER U.S. PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH, SAYING: "I understand there's a lot of critics, and I don't want to make the president's job worse, no matter what political party. It's a hard job." Bush says he's happy spending his time expressing himself through paintings and honoring the veterans who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
