Trump rehashes Charter announcement

The 20,000 jobs that President Trump announced Friday Charter would add was announced by the cable company two years ago. Fred Katayama reports.

President Donald Trump announced at the White House that Charter Communications will invest $25 billion in the U.S. He also touted plans Charter had previously announced, that is, to hire 20,000 workers over four years and close offshore call centers. SOUNDBITE: U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "Today I am thrilled to announce that Charter Communications has just committed to investing $25 billion - $25 billion with a b, you sure that's right - not with an M, with a b right - $25 billion here in the United States and has committed further to hiring 20,000 American workers for the next four years." Trump has done this before, touting job announcements that had been previously planned or announced. Two years ago, Charter said it planned to add 20,000 jobs as part of its merger with Time Warner Cable. And it had said more than a year ago that it planned to close foreign call centers and move those jobs to the United States.
