ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. The leaders of 27 European Union countries, excluding the UK, arrived in Rome on Saturday (March 25) to attend a ceremony that marks the EU's 60th birthday. Prime ministers and presidents will gather in a frescoed palazzo to mark the 1957 founding Treaty of Rome. However, celebrations have been tempered by a string of crises, including prolonged economic turmoil, an influx of migrants and Britain's decision to leave the bloc, that have raised fears for the future of the Union. Security will be tight around the muted celebrations in the Campidoglio palace in central Rome, with protesters planning to gather throughout the day and police on high alert after the latest attack in Europe, on Wednesday (March 22) in London.
