ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan received a ceremonial welcome in New Delhi on Monday (May 01) as he began his official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations with India. Erodgan, who is on a two-day visit, was received by his Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon his arrival at the presidential palace. He inspected the guard of honour at the forecourts of the red sand-stone British-era palace. The visiting president also laid a wreath at the memorial of India's iconic freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi. Erdogan later met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bilateral discussions to boost trade and economic ties. The two leaders are expected to make a joint statement following the meeting. The talks are likely to revolve around New Delhi's efforts to get into the coveted Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), which Ankara had previously opposed. The two countries are also likely to discuss the issue of militancy in the region.
