ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. After a tumultuous election campaign filled with scandal and surprises, French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen cast her vote on Sunday (May 7). She was greeted by supporters as she left the polling station in a school in her home town of Henin-Beaumont. This former coal mining community in northern France, a town where unemployment approaches 20 per cent, is one of about a dozen municipalities - out of 36,000 nation-wide - that are controlled by her far-right party and its affiliates. Opinion polls indicate centrist Emmanuel Macron, a 39-year-old ex-economy minister who wants to bridge the left-right divide, would come first with a 23-26 percentage point lead over Le Pen.
