"On this milestone extravehicular activity, the 200th spacewalk..." A historic day at the International Space Station. NASA astronauts Peggy Whitson and Jack Fischer heading outside for the 200th spacewalk at the ISS. The mission... to replace hardware and install a new HD camera...technology barely imagined when the first spacewalk took place, December 7th, 1998. Back then, it was NASA astronauts Jerry Ross and Jim Newman, who ventured out - to attach and outfit the Russian Zarya and U.S. Unity modules....essentially building the structure that's been orbiting Earth ever since. At the time, the ISS was considered one of the most ambitious and expensive engineering feats ever undertaken... It's a feat that continues to break new ground for science and discovery ... nearly two decades later.
