Now Americans can book hotels in Cuba themselves. The online travel services company Expedia joins a dozen U.S. airlines and cruise operators that have entered the Cuban market. The U.S. eased travel and trade restrictions after it announced a detente with its former Cold War foe three years ago. Expedia says it'll offer hotel and B&B options. Previously, Americans had to reserve Cuban hotels through travel agencies or tour groups. American tourists in Havana like Kim Smith welcomed the move. SOUNDBITE: KIM SMITH, AMERICAN TOURIST, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "Oh that would make it real easy, very very easy, and I think we have a tendency to do everything online, so it would be a benefit to us." Also this week, Cuba opened its first five-star hotel ahead of its official inauguration in June. The Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski is set within a renovated 19th Century building. It's one of 110 projects on the Ministry of Tourism's portfolio involving foreign investment. These developments come as U.S. President Donald Trump conducts a full review of U.S. policy toward Cuba.
