Five suicide bombers in a single attack on a police headquarters in Gardez, eastern Afghanistan. Dozens of people killed or wounded; the Taliban have claimed responsibility. One bomber detonated a car packed with explosives at the gates early on Sunday morning. Four more stormed the gate, police killing two of them straight away. Local hospitals saying they received the bodies of at least five police and 30 wounded people, 20 of them civilians. The Taliban and Islamic State militants have launched a string of attacks across Afghanistan in recent weeks; the latter claiming responsibility for a deadly attack on a mosque in Kabul on Thursday. Thousands of international troops are deployed in the country. U.S. defence officials will decide in the next few weeks whether to send 3,000 to 5,000 more.
