BROADCAST AND DIGITAL RESTRICTIONS~ ONSCREEN COURTESY HANDOUT SAHARA REPORTERS** Broadcasters: Digital: ONSCREEN COURTESY HANDOUT SAHARA REPORTERS **~ (SOUNDBITE) (Hausa) KIDNAPPED WORKER, SOLOMON YUSUF, SAYING: "I want to call on the entire media community to help us to support this our cry so that we will be rescued alive.' Just some of the members of an oil exploration team who were kidnapped by Boko Haram on Tuesday (July 25). The militant group has released a video of three of the researchers apparently unharmed. In exchange for their freedom, one of them asks the government to reduce the use of force against the jihadi group. Amongst those captured are university staff and employees from Nigeria's state oil firm. Rescue efforts earlier this week were in vain. At least 37 members of the team and their rescuers on Wednesday (July 26) were killed when they tried to ambush Boko Haram. The researchers from Maiduguri University have been prospecting for oil in Nigeria's Lake Chad Basin for over a year. Boko Haram have their own plans for the area. They are fighting to create an Islamic State there. The group has killed at least 20,000 people and forced over 2 million people to flee their homes since 2009. The government hopes a change in tactic with the way it deals with Boko Haram will help it regain contol of the area once again.
