SHOWS: KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA (AUGUST 21, 2017) (REUTERS - ACCESS ALL) 1. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SINGAPOREAN SWIMMER JOSEPH SCHOOLING SAYING: "It was my first swim so (I am) a little bit of nervy but get that first swim in my belt, (I am) happy with the result, I couldn't ask for a better start. Hopefully I can get better throughout the meet." 2. WHITE FLASH 3. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SINGAPOREAN SWIMMER JOSEPH SCHOOLING SAYING: "Everyone has gotten faster, really. So being able to come back in a win after a rough summer definitely means a lot to me. In 2015, the top eight in the 50 (metre) (butter)fly was 28.5 and this year is 24.9, so that's really speaks volume about how fast swimmers (are) getting, not only around the world, especially in the SEA Games." STORY: Olympic 100-metre butterfly champion Joseph Schooling of Singapore put his disappointing showing at last month's FINA World Aquatics Championships behind him when he took gold on the opening day of the South East Asian (SEA) Games swimming competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Monday (August 21). Schooling won the 50-metre butterfly in 23.06 seconds, breaking his own SEA Games record of 23.46 set in 2015. The Singaporean, who was disappointed to have only won a bronze medal in the 100-metre butterfly at the World Championships in Budapest, was delighted with his win in Kuala Lumpur. The 22-year-old won nine gold medals at the last SEA Games in Singapore two years ago but will only race in six events this year. The 29th version of the biennial SEA Games continue until August 30.
