Yves Saint Laurent’s original Paris atelier opens to public

Paris fashion house Yves Saint Laurent inaugurates a museum at its historic atelier, which will give visitors a chance to experience the designer's world. Sarah Mills reports.

In the heart of Paris, a tribute to fashion legend Yves Saint Laurent. This is where the influential designer and his partner Pierre Bergé worked for nearly 30 years. And now a new museum at the atelier of the French fashion house will give visitors a chance to experience the designer's world. The museum's director says it's the first of its kind. (SOUNDBITE) (French) DIRECTOR OF THE YVES SAINT LAURENT MUSEUM, OLIVIER FLAVIANO, SAYING: "I think it's the first time that the process of creation in a fashion house is so well documented and I believe that it is the first time that a former fashion house is opened to the public." The public will get a glimpse of the designer's studio where he created his clothes. The small desk where he worked remains messy as it used to be. (SOUNDBITE) (French) DIRECTOR OF THE YVES SAINT LAURENT MUSEUM, OLIVIER FLAVIANO, SAYING: "This desk - totally simple, it's a board on two trestles, is the desk that Saint Laurent used since 1962 for the presentation of his first collection." Visitors will get to go through the lounges where clients were received for fittings. They'll also get the chance to see some of the designer's famous creations as well as sketches and drawings.
