Clive Davis is the man behind some of the biggest names in music history. Barry Manilow. Alicia Keys. And the late Whitney Houston to name just a few. Now the Grammy-winning record producer and executive's career is the subject of new documentary - "Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives". The film features pivotal moments in his sixty year career, most notably his close relationship with Whitney Houston. Talking about her struggle with drugs Davis admitted he could have acted sooner. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MUSIC PRODUCER, CLIVE DAVIS, SAYING: "...Whitney was always prepared for any meeting that she and I had. She was always at her best, dressed up looking great. So maybe, the film does make clear that I might have been a little bit more vigilant earlier." The former Columbia and Arista boss talks about his role in bringing hip hop music into the mainstream thanks in part to a young, unknown called Sean Puffy Combs... (SOUNDBITE) (English) MUSIC PRODUCER, CLIVE DAVIS, SAYING: "He played me, he played me Craig Mack 'Flava in ya ear'. He played me a few cuts from an artist I never heard of, because he never recorded before, the 'Notorious B.I.G'. and so when I heard those cuts and I heard the vision articulated I said 'OK you got me I'm financing 'Bad Boy Records'." And the music mogul is candid about coming out as bisexual later in life after having a family. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MUSIC PRODUCER, CLIVE DAVIS, SAYING: "...So only then in my late 40s did I open myself up to bisexuality. Not committing to one over another but saying I'm going to pick the person rather than the sex aspect of it. So I have no regrets about that whatsoever." "Clive Davis: The Soundtrack To Our Lives," is released on Oct. 3 via Apple Music featuring Whitney Houston, Bisexuality, Hip-Hop and musicians galore.
