Brazil pension reform vote could begin Tuesday, end Wednesday - lawmaker

BRASILIA, Aug 5 (Reuters) - Brazil’s lower house could start voting on a sweeping pension reform bill on Tuesday, with the vote possibly wrapped up by late-Wednesday, the lower house leader of the New Party, a key government ally, said on Monday, after speaking with the chamber’s leader.

Marcel van Hattem made his comments after meeting with lower house chief Rodrigo Maia, the powerful legislator who has orchestrated the bill through the chamber. The pension reform is the far-right government’s flagship economic proposal, which it says will prop up rickety public finances and kick-start long-lagging growth.
