UK parliament taking control of Brexit is worrying precedent - minister

LONDON, March 27 (Reuters) - Andrea Leadsom, who is in charge of the British government’s business in parliament, said on Wednesday the government would oppose the business motion allowing lawmakers to take control of the Brexit process, calling it a worrying precedent.

“Today’s motion is an extremely concerning precedent for our democracy,” Leadsom told parliament.

“It is for parliament to scrutinise, to amend, to reject and to approve, what today does is effectively turn that precedent on its head. Those who are not in government are deciding the business.” (Reporting By Kylie MacLellan and Elizabeth Piper. Editing by Andrew MacAskill)
