Canada housing starts drop less than expected in January -CMHC

TORONTO, Feb 8 (Reuters) - Canadian housing starts fell in January as a 10.4 percent drop in single-detached urban starts offset increased groundbreaking on multiple unit urban homes, data from the national housing agency showed on Friday.

The seasonally adjusted annualized rate of housing starts fell to 207,968 units from a revised 213,630 units in December, the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) said. Economists had expected starts to fall to 205,000. (Reporting by Fergal Smith)
