Canada housing starts rise in October as multiples climb

TORONTO, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Canadian housing starts rose in October as groundbreaking on multiple unit urban homes climbed 16.8 percent, offsetting a drop in single-detached urban starts, data from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation showed on Thursday.

The seasonally adjusted annual rate of starts rose to 205, 925 units in October from September’s upwardly revised 189,730 units. Economists had expected starts to rise to 200,000. (Reporting by Fergal Smith; Editing by Bernard Orr)
