CANADA STOCKS-Futures slip after dismal US, Canada jobs reports

(Adds jobs data)

Oct 6 (Reuters) - Canada’s main stock index futures slipped after data showed the economy added fewer jobs than expected last month, while the United States recorded its first decline in employment in seven years.

Statistics Canada data showed the addition of 10,000 jobs in September marked a slowdown from the previous month and fell short of forecasts for a gain of 14,500.

U.S. nonfarm payrolls fell by 33,000 last month amid a record drop in employment in the leisure and hospitality sector.

December futures on the S&P TSX index were down 0.16 percent at 8:50 a.m. ET.

Dow Jones Industrial Average e-mini futures were down 0.18 percent at 9:10 a.m. ET, while S&P 500 e-mini futures were down 0.23 percent and Nasdaq 100 e-mini futures were down 0.38 percent.

Canada’s benchmark stock index notched a seven-month high on Thursday, fueled by a rally in energy and mining stocks as commodity prices rose, but gains were tempered by a drop in the shares of Shopify Inc for a second straight day.
