SHANGHAI, Sept 8 (Reuters) - China’s yuan continued to strengthen against the U.S. dollar on Friday after blowing past the key 6.5 per dollar level a day earlier.
Friday’s official local close, at 0830 GMT, was 6.4617, the highest since April 2016.
Spot yuan opened at 6.4800 per dollar, rose to a high of 6.4350 at one point.
For the year, the yuan has strengthened about 7.5 percent against the dollar, more than erasing last year’s losses of 6.5 percent. (Reporting by Winni Zhou and David Stanway; Editing by Richard Borsuk)
