China's Cofco to discontinue Brazil soy crushing plant

SAO PAULO, Sept 4 (Reuters) - China’s Cofco Intl will discontinue operations at a soy crushing plant in the Brazilian state of Paraná, the company said in a statement on Monday when asked about a local media report.

According to the report by Portal Cambé, about 100 employees were fired from the unit, which makes soy oil, as a result of the decision. Cofco did not comment on the number of workers who lost their jobs, but said it is extending employees’ health insurance plan through the end of 2017.
