Cricket-Rain delays day two of England v Windies at Lord's

LONDON, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Play was delayed at the start of the second day of the third test between England and West Indies at Lord’s on Friday.

The covers were being removed, however, and it is hoped that the match can resume at 1015 GMT should predicted rain stay away.

England will resume their first innings on 46 for four having dismissed West Indies for 123 on a chaotic first day.

All rounder Ben Stokes claimed career-best figures of six for 22 in 14.3 overs on Thursday as West Indies lost their last eight wickets for 45 runs.

England bowler James Anderson was stranded on 499 test wickets having taken two West Indies wickets on Thursday.

He needs one more to become only the sixth bowler to reach the 500 landmark in test cricket, and the first Englishman.

Stokes and Dawid Malan will both resume on 13 not out having come together with England reeling at 24-4 on Thursday. (Reporting by Martyn Herman; editing by Amlan Chakraborty)
