Cambridge provisionally set new UK highest temperature record on Thursday

LONDON, July 26 (Reuters) - A British record high temperature was recorded in Cambridge, eastern England, on Thursday, when a provisional reading of 38.7 degrees Celsius (101.66°F) was recorded at the Cambridge University Botanic Garden, the Met Office said.

The current confirmed highest-ever temperature for Britain is 38.5 Celsius, recorded in Faversham, southeast England, in August 2003.

The new temperature will require quality control and analysis before being confirmed as the highest officially recorded in the UK, the Met office said on Friday.
