Germany should not start questioning its debt brake rule - minister

BERLIN, Oct 17 (Reuters) - Germany should not start questioning its debt brake rule, Economy Minister Peter Altmaier said on Thursday, adding that he wanted to avoid a debate about whether the government should stick to its ‘black zero’ policy of not taking on new debt.

Germany’s economic institutes earlier this month called on Berlin to ditch the ‘black zero’ if the growth outlook for Europe’s largest economy should deteriorate further. (Reporting by Tassilo Hummel, writing by Riham Alkousaa Editing by Paul Carrel)
