Greek government secures votes to pass public sector layoffs bill

ATHENS, July 18 (Reuters) - Greece’s government secured enough parliamentary votes to pass a public sector reform bill early on Thursday that allows for thousands of job cuts, clearing the way for the disbursement of the country’s next tranche of bailout aid.

A majority of deputies in the 300-seat parliament voted in favour of the most contentious bits of the bill, including plans for a public sector transfer and layoff scheme.
