Number of tourists visiting Spain in August fell 76% on year

MADRID, Oct 2 (Reuters) - International tourist arrivals to Spain fell 76% year-on-year in August, official data released on Friday showed, as restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic dissuaded many from traveling.

Over the first eight months of the year, some 15.7 million foreign tourists visited Spain, around 73% fewer than in the same period of 2019, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said.

Tourists spent 79% less in August than in the same month a year ago, INE said. (Reporting by Asia Jonczyk-Gwizdala and Inti Landauro Editing by Ingrid Melander)
