France's Le Maire: it will take longer than planned to improve public finances

PARIS, March 9 (Reuters) - France still aims to improve public finances but this will take longer than planned due to the coronavirus crisis, Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said on Monday.

Le Maire told a news conference that he spoke with his German counterpart at length on Monday to coordinate a European response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Macroprudential rules on banks must not prevent them from lending to firms struggling with the coronavirus impact, he said, adding that the best way to avoid a downward spiral was to ensure firms have access to credit.
