HP hires Nokia exec to run mobile software

HELSINKI, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Hewlett-Packard (HPQ.N) has hired Ari Jaaksi, a software executive from Nokia NOK1V.HE, as a Senior Vice President of its new mobile operating system webOS, a spokeswoman for HP said on Friday.

Earlier this month Nokia said Jaaksi, the head of the Finnish handset maker’s key Meego software platform, had decided to leave the company. [ID:nLDE6941ND]

Nokia, once the envy of the industry for its global reach and top-selling phones, has fallen behind new market entrants Apple (AAPL.O), Google (GOOG.O) and others in the high end of the market. (Reporting by Tarmo Virki; Editing by Will Waterman)
