International peacekeeper killed in Sudan's Darfur

KHARTOUM, May 8 (Reuters) - An international peacekeeper has been shot dead in a carjacking outside his residence in Sudan’s Darfur region, a spokesman for the joint U.N. and African Union peacekeeping force UNAMID said on Friday.

"UNAMID announces with deep regret that one of its people was shot and killed last night in south Darfur, in Nyala, during a carjacking incident," UNAMID spokesman Noureddine Mezni said, reading a statement. (Reporting by Cynthia Johnston and Yara Bayoumy)
