ISTANBUL, Aug 2 (Reuters) - Up to 50 percent of gas from three fields Iraq plans to offer for development will be available for export, an Iraqi oil ministry official said on Monday.
Iraq plans to hold an auction on Oct. 1 for the three fields, Akkas in the western desert, Siba in the southern oil hub of Basra, and Mansuriyah in eastern Iraq.
“The initial percentage will be up to 50 percent for exportation,” the official, Abdul-Mahdy al-Ameedi, said at a workshop in Istanbul.
Ameedi said the top priority for the gas would be to meet local demand and winning contractors for the fields must build exporting facilities. (Reporting by Ayla Jean Yackley, writing by Jim Loney)
