Israeli labour union calls off general strike called for Wednesday

JERUSALEM, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Israel’s main public sector union called off a general strike planned for Wednesday in protest at construction-site deaths, saying the government had agreed to approve safety standards.

The strike would have shut down airports, banks and government offices. A Finance Ministry spokeswoman confirmed that a deal had been reached in negotiations with the union on Tuesday. (Writing by Dan Williams; Editing by Alison Williams)
