Italy - Factors to watch on July 12

The following factors could affect Italian markets on Friday.

ECONOMY

Rating agency DBRS reviews sovereign debt rating on Italy.

Bank of Italy releases Economic Bulletin.

ATLANTIA

The Italian infrastructure group said it would look into the possibility of buying a stake in ailing national airline Alitalia, but it looks unlikely that it will be ready by the government’s deadline of Monday.

(*) Italy’s Economy Minister Giovanni Tria said on Friday he hoped Atlantia would join the rescue plan.

(*) The deadline to present a binding rescue bid for Alitalia may be extended to September, daily Il Messaggero said.

S&P placed Atlantia and its subsidiaries Autostrade per l’Italia (Aspi) and Aeroporti di Roma on CreditWatch Negative citing “heightened downside risk” as the government may pursue a unilateral revocation of Aspi motorway concession.

SALINI IMPREGILO, ASTALDI

State lender CDP may invest 250 million euros into a project aiming at creating a national construction champion involving Salini Impregilo and the troubled rival Astaldi, Il Sole 24 Ore reported on Friday. According to Il Sole 24 Ore, early next week CDP may submit a comfort letter to provide assurance it will take part in the project.

MEDIASET

Hostile shareholder Vivendi asked its shares to be included in a loyalty share scheme the Italian broadcaster approved in April, Il Sole 24 Ore reported on Friday.

CARIGE

An alternative rescue plan for the troubled Italian lender may envisage spinning off its healthy assets and selling them to an Italian lender, MF daily reported.

BANCA MONTEPASCHI

(*) The Italian government has started preliminary talks with the European Commission as it prepares to exit Monte dei Paschi capital, MF daily reported.

Italy has to tell the European Union how it intends to sell its stake in Monte dei Paschi by the end of 2019 but Rome could ask for a six-month extension, MF added.

FIAT CHRYSLER

The Italian-American car maker plans to spend 700 million euros ($788 million) to take the Fiat 500 electric as the it moves on from its failed $35 billion bid to merge with France’s Renault a pioneer in electric vehicles.

Ford Motor and Volkswagen said on Thursday they are expanding their global alliance announced in January with deals expected to involve collaboration on electric and autonomous vehicles.

BRUNELLO CUCINELLI

Italian luxury group’s sales grew by 8.1% to 291.4 million euros in the first half of 2019.

BIALETTI

The company said on Thursday its board set the price for a capital increase up to 6.5 million euros at 0.1386 euro per share.

Milan, Italian banking association ABI holds annual assembly with President Antonio Patuelli, Bank of Italy Governor Ignazio Visco, Economy Minister Giovanni Tria, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte (0900 GMT).
