Italy - Factors to watch on June 13

The following factors could affect Italian markets on Wednesday.

POLITICS

Italy’s new minister for EU affairs sought to reassure investors and other European capitals on Tuesday about the government’s stance on monetary union, saying the euro was “indispensable”, and denying he ever suggested leaving the single currency.

Italy sent hundreds of migrants towards Spain in a small naval convoy on Tuesday after shutting its own ports to them, sparking a war of words with France that exposed EU tensions over immigration.

Rome, Interior Minister Matteo Salvini reports in Senate about ‘Acquarius ship’ (0915 GMT).

ECONOMY

Signs of economic weakening in Italy and the wider euro zone are complicating the new, anti-establishment coalition’s plans for deep tax cuts and higher welfare spending.

OECD releases April composite leading indicator (1000 GMT).

State lender agency Cassa Depositi e Prestiti President Claudio Costamagna attends conference on “Risk Capital to Support Startups in Italy and France” in Milan (1200 GMT).

News conference to present last edition of the report on “The Italian NPL Market: What’s Next...?” in Milan (0900 GMT).

DEBT

Treasury sells 1.5-2.0 billion euros 0.05 percent BTP bonds due April 15, 2021; 1.75-2.25 billion euros 1.45 percent BTP bonds due May 15, 2025; 1.0-1.5 billion euros following two BTP bonds: 3.25 percent due Sept. 1, 2046 and 3.45 percent due March 1, 2048. Subscriptions close at 0900 GMT.

UNICREDIT

CEO Jean-Pierre Mustier declined to comment on a report about a potential tie-up with French rival Societe Generale . (*) The bank has put on the block a portfolio of non-performing loans with a nominal value of around 2 billion euros, MF said, adding the sale should be concluded in the autumn.

ITALGAS

Releases 2018-2024 strategic plan, followed by presentation (1300 GMT). (*) The company said its new business plan targets investments, including acquisitions, of 4 billion euros.

Luca Lanzalone, chairman of Italy’s utility company Acea, was put under house arrest on Wednesday as part of an investigation into the construction of a new stadium for Italy’s Roma soccer club, a judicial source said.

(*) MEDIASET

The private broadcaster is, along with Sky Italia, Perform and Spain’s Mediapro, among the bidders for the TV broadcasting rights for Italy’s top flight Serie A soccer matches, Il Sole 24 Ore reported. Offers are due by 0900 GMT on Wednesday and will be opened shortly after. If the sum of the offers for the three packages is below 1.1 billion euros per year, Italy’s Serie A League will proceed to the assignment of the rights. Otherwise the League will proceed via private negotiations with the bidders, the report added.

Bernstein has cut its target price on the stock to 0.90 euros from 0.95 euros.

The company is in exclusive talks to buy 80-90 percent of ham maker Ferrarini, Il Messaggero said.

RETELIT

Core investor Raffaele Mincione denied on Tuesday press reports that he had bought shares in Retelit to surpass the 25 percent threshold. Mincione said neither WRM nor Fiber 4.0 had surpassed any threshold that would oblige him to disclose his shareholding.
